Since 1973 the Director-delegate of the Casa de Mateus Foundation has been D. Fernando de Sousa Botelho Albuquerque, son of D. Francisco, who started on December 3, 1977, with the cycle "Culture in Dialogue", the activities of the Foundation.
Casa de Mateus Foundation has joined the Regional Conservatory of Music of Vila Real in the IX Edition of the National Prize Elisa de Sousa Pedroso and hosts the Final Concert - Concert of Laureates.
The Casa de Mateus was built in the first half of the 18th century by António José Botelho Mourão, 3rd Morgado de Mateus. This replaced the former family house which had stood on the site since the beginning of the 17th century. In 1910, it was classified as a National Monument.
The "Caminhos de Mateus" festival will trace new paths by looking for associations that will allow to extend the musical network of the Casa de Mateus, inviting new interpreters and bringing original programs to complement harmoniously the patrimony constituted and projecting it in the future as a living and organic thing capable of reinventing without neglecting the past.
